Blog Action Day: 7 Ways You Can Effect Climate Change And Help Save The World!

Climate change can and will affect the plants that heal us.  Mother Nature put all her plants on this earth for a reason.  If there is an illness, disease or syndrome she has a plant that will take care of it.  Since the beginning of time, Mother Nature has created natural herbal remedies for us to use.

Today is climate-changing day and a lot of blogger are part of Blog Action Day.  It’s a website that chooses a topic for bloggers to write about on a specific day and that day is today.  This years’ focus is on climate change.

Some say this is the same thing that happened in the 1970’s with the dooms day scenarios and the world would end in 2001.  Although some of the scenarios would have come true if the clean air act hadn’t come into law.  That law cleaned up our cities: such as Baltimore, Los Angeles, Huston and New York City, just to name a few.  This law had an impact on the amount of emissions that were being released into our atmosphere.  So it did effect climate change.

With the “discovery” of cheaper labor in other countries, big businesses went forth and taught them how to build factories to produce their products.  But what they didn’t teach them was how to control the pollution caused by these new factories.  They (other countries) are going though what America went through in the 70’s and 80’s. Why big business didn’t teach them about “clean air” is something I have not figured out yet.  However…

How you can help clean up the world

Some say “But I’m just one person!  What can one person do?”  Well, Hilter was one person and look what he did.  Sadum Hassin was one person and we all know what he did.  So one person can make a difference!

Here are 7 ways to make our earth a healthier place to live – so we can keep on living healthy.

  • Composting
  • Recycle
  • Grow healing herbs
  • Plant a tree
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Phantom energy
  • Give your car a break

Don’t waste your waste

Whether you live in a house, apartment, condo, or a farm, even at the office, you can use your waste to protect our environment.  The more waste that goes into the landfills — the more energy it takes to recycle it.

Worms are your friends

Composting takes waste and turns it into one of Mother Nature’s finest fertilizers.  Those little worms just love newspaper, cardboard, vegetable waste, and even junk mail.  So instead of throwing out that junk mail or cardboard box, cut it up and bury it in your yard.  Even living in an apartment, you can still compost.

Get a plastic tub from Walmart or your favorite store.  Get some worms, a little dirt and start throwing your waste into the worm bin and watch them devour it in as little as a week.  What they produce is the finest fertilizer you could have.  Use it on your container herbs, vegetables, even house plants will love it.  If you don’t have plants, you can give it away, sell it or throw it out into someone’s garden or the city’s garden in the street.

Plastic can be your friend

With few exceptions, almost everything you purchase at the grocery store has a container.  Plastic container (such as strawberry containers) can be made into little greenhouses for starting seed.

Plastics and newspapers can be made into jewelry, knick-knacks and the list goes on.

Cans can be used as pots for starting seedlings or used for growing vegetables.  They can be made into holder of “things”, kids can paint and decorate cans to give away as gifts, use them to store your nails and screws, hold your screwdrivers, and pencils and pens and much, much more.  Use your imitation and come up with your own ideas on how to use the cans and plastic you get everyday.

Grow your own herbs and vegetables

Even in apartments your can grow your own herbs and vegetables.  You can also grow fruit trees in containers.  Most apartments have balconies and this is a great place to grow anything.  If it’s a small balcony, you can use the side of it to grow a vertical garden.  Use one of those shoe holders that hooks to the back of doors.  They make great vertical gardens for herbs and vegetables.

Every tree, plant and shrub gives you oxygen

Most cities have a program for planting tress and shrub in your neighborhood or someplace in your city.  Join them and help plant the trees that produce the very air we breathe.  Every time they cut down a tree, we lose the oxygen it produces.

Compact fluorescent light bulbs really do last longer

The first thing I did, well, almost the first thing, when I bought my house was to change the outdoor lights from floodlights to fluorescent light bulbs.  I have not changed them since and I’ve owned my own home for 10 years now.  I changed all the ceiling lights to fluorescent light bulbs and have only had to replace one of them since then. So I can recommend using them because they do last a long time.

Fluorescent light bulbs decrease your energy consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions because they use less power to supply the same amount of light as incandescent bulbs.  So save yourself some money and use fluorescent light bulbs.

Phantom energy can cost you plenty of bucks

A couple of months ago I was reading an article about phantom energy.  I don’t remember which one but I went around turning off the clocks, power strips and anything that was running in the bedrooms, utility room and all the rooms that weren’t in use all the time.

When I got my next power bill, it was $20.00 less than the month before.  I really couldn’t believe I was spending money on running a clock in a bedroom that wasn’t even being used.  So to conserve even more energy turn off things that aren’t used on a day-to-day basis.

You can also use a “smart” power strip, which detects energy use and automatically turns off when appliances are not being used.

Give your car a break today

Walk, bicycle, carpool or use public transportation whenever you can.

Regardless if the climate change is the reason for all the problems, we still need to take care of our planet.  Doing your part will help save the world!

Did you know that not rice plants contribute about half of the greenhouse gasses… so i guess one thing you could do is stop eating rice… or even better, no sex. Adding humans to this world must be about the worst thing you can do to the environment… hmm guess I am guily

I am a big fan of Al Gore. He has done so much to bring awareness to the importance of climate change. We all must do our part to help protect the environment, but one major problem is the amount of pollution in some rapidly growing 3rd World economies.

Not a big fan of Al Gore though. Think he might be a bit hypocritical but I suppose at least there is some awareness. Anyhow, it’s amazing how small changes can make big differences.
